LA MALADRESSE is a performance for the dancer-singer Celia Gondol and the musicians Nico Devos and Pénélope Michel. It is a live concert and a dance piece that relies on the observation of unintentional movements such as nervous tics and “dyskinesia”. (Dyskinesia is a distortion in performing voluntary movements, which often occurs as a side effect of long-term therapy of Parkinson’s disease). Dyskinetic movements look like smooth tics, and also like an uncoordinated dance. It is more than a functional disorder, it is also the wild expression of the body : a whole gestural language resisting to codes, laws and regulations. This work opens up new experiences for dance and movement. It is founded on the strange coordination, musicality and temporality that these disorders bring about. We created a poetic language, a song, from these gestures that the body creates despite itself.
